CSOS Listserv

Who can join the listserv?

Anybody with an interest in occupational science and its development in Canada can join the listserv.

How can I join the listserv?

After becoming a member of CSOS, you will automatically be added to the listserv. You may also become a member of the listserv by submitting a request to CSOS (csos@dal.ca).

What is the purpose of the listserv?

The CSOS-CA listserv is managed by the Canadian Society of Occupational Scientists for the purpose of communication with its membership and other persons who are interested in occupational science in Canada.

A complementary listserv (occsci@listserv.csu.edu.au) is managed by the International Society of Occupational Scientists to provide a forum for communication of international matters related to occupational science. Canadians may participate in the international listserv, and non-Canadians are welcome to participate in CSOS-CA if they wish to comment on Canadian matters.

What are the objectives of the listserv?

  1. To identify Canadian researchers who have an interest in occupational science.
  2. To invite Canadian researchers who communicate through the listserv to identify the 'occupational' interests that link their research to occupational science.
  3. To distinguish current purposes of the CSOS listserv and the International Society of Occupational Scientists (ISOS) listserv.
  4. To review the purpose and objectives of the listserv after a trial period until June 2003.

What are the guidelines for posting messages to this listserv?

1. Postings to the listserv should aim to further our understanding of human occupation in Canada, or to further the impact of occupational science in Canadian research, education, and society.

  • e.g. I have noticed that the majority of security guards at Canadian universities tend to be from visible minority groups. Is this true? If yes, any ideas about the Canadian social or institutional processes at work that have created this occupational phenomenon?

2. Postings may also put forth ideas for discussion or debate in a Canadian context.

  • e.g. It seems that the next step to advance occupational science in Canada is to develop an interdisciplinary research proposal for national funding. Any comments or thoughts on a national research project and a potential Canadian funding body?
