What is Occupational Science?

So... just what is "occupational science" about? Click on the questions below to find out.

Two power point presentations are available for education about occupational science. They are available, courtesy of the presenters. Please be reminded that any use or adaptation of these presentations requires a citation to acknowledge the source.

Education can be fun. These presentations might be used to stimulate class or colleague discussions in a university setting. Researchers might draw colleagues together to consider multi-disciplinary investigations around the theme of occupations. Occupational therapists can challenge the profession to consider occupation as core foundational knowledge in working with clients. Those within and outside occupational therapy can challenge the public to consider how occupations and the organization of occupations shape daily life.

Enjoy the chance to spark good discussions about occupation as a central feature of human existence and societies.

"What is Occupational Science and Why Do We Need It" (H. Polatajko, & E. Townsend, 2003) provides an overview of occupational science and its relationship to occupational therapy.

"Occupational Science: What Can It Do for the Practice of Occupational Therapy" (Z. Kumas-Tan, & E. Townsend, 2003) offers examples of using occupational science literature to analyze occupational issues and provide occupation-focused occupational therapy services.
